Conpulsion 2013

Postby PhilipGHarris » 1:19pm on 31 May 12

Suppose I should let you all know that I'll be in charge of Conpulsion 2013.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Boooo. Someone who informs and chats to us.

Anyway I'm always happy to listen to your thoughts and suggestions and will be on here fairly regularly to chat.

Cheers

Phil
Been gaming from the womb, in fact there were concerns about the rattling dice sound coming from there.

Howdy

Anyone got sage advice on getting from the airport to the venue? I'm guessing a taxi would be a bit pricey, so was thinking there'll be specific buses or trains eager delegates can catch? Any links to the appropriate timetables?

Cheers!

The Edinburgh Airport bus takes you to the city centre (where the Teviot Row Union building is fairly close to Waverly Rail station where the airport bus terminates)

http://www.flybybus.com/

Ticket is £3.50 I believe or £6 for a return.

The airport bus is what most folks use: very fast, very easy and very regular.
You could however go for the number 35 bus: cheaper (£1.40) and will take you (almost) to the door. The route is here: http://lothianbuses.com/timetables-tick ... etables/35

Howdy!

I bought a ticket for the convention but haven't had an email or anything (apart from the Paypal one), should I expect an e-ticket or confirmation email - or is it name-on-the-door stuff?

The Con starts on the Friday apparently, but the call for games is Saturday and Sunday. What time to things happen on the Friday and what are they? Is it just a boozey do?

How does one sign up for games at Conpulsion? Is it sign-up sheets and sharp elbows? Is there someone I'll need to speak to about space for ad-hoc gaming, or is there an area I can tip up in?

The Union of Genius sounds good for lunch, but before the morning games kick off, is there a recommended place nearby to get a plentiful Full Scottish Breakfast?

Talking of morning kick off - what time do people normally get in of a morning and how long can we stay in the building for?

Any news on when Android: Netrunner might run yet? There was thinking it might be Sunday, but due to my flights Saturday is clearly a better choice... ;)

Thanks!

Phil will be able to answer this part better than I can, but the paid-for tickets generally go onto a big list and your name can be ticked off at the door. Unless Phil and Gregor have changed things this year, that's probably the way it will go.

The Con starts on the Friday apparently, but the call for games is Saturday and Sunday. What time to things happen on the Friday and what are they? Is it just a boozey do?

Friday evening is normally social time, with some ad hoc games on offer (maybe even scheduled stuff.) There are sometimes organised events. But, mostly: drinking.

Most years there are sign-up sheets in the hall/cafeteria area.

The Union of Genius sounds good for lunch, but before the morning games kick off, is there a recommended place nearby to get a plentiful Full Scottish Breakfast?

Snax on Buccleugh Street is a typical greasy spoon, but the food is cheap and plentiful. It's only about five minutes walk from the con venue. I think Mums on Forrest Road also does a fried breakfast. Spoon on Nicholson Street also does breakfast, but I'm unsure if it is of the fried variety. Kilimanjaro, slightly further south down Nicholson Street also does a fried breakfast (as far as I recall.) Their coffee is very good, though. Actually, for really outstanding coffee, Brew Lab on South College Street is the hipster place to be. Nice cakes as well.

Thinking of lunch, the Nicholson Street/Square area is good. The Mosque Kitchen offers cheap and plentiful home made curry. The Palmyra does a nice shawerma, etc. I'm sure locals will be able to guide you.

Talking of morning kick off - what time do people normally get in of a morning and how long can we stay in the building for?

Phil would be in a better position to answer this. From memory, traders, etc can get in about 9. Certainly, that's when I plan to be there to set up the Mobile Frame Zero stuff.

Any news on when Android: Netrunner might run yet? There was thinking it might be Sunday, but due to my flights Saturday is clearly a better choice... ;)

I have no idea what that even is.

The kebab/curry house opposite the Mosque Kitchen does the best kebab I have ever tasted. I will be leading the pre-Saturday night game pilgrimage there again this year. So meaty, so gooooooood.
