The Purgatory of Mick

Postby Mick Red » 9:26am on 19 Jun 12

I sit here writing this in the hope that someone somewhere will read it and ensure the legend continues.... For i know that my dead body is still lying at high altitude in an Amsterdam hotel... I am now in purgatory for the sins of this weekend! Let me tell you the story that led to my death...

An idiot abroad - The Dutchies who have been supporting UK cons from Indiecon to Conception from Pubcon to the London Indie RPG meet, decided to open up the borders and invited us for a change to come and enjoy their hospitality... When they heard this a slew of gamers were it seems mad for it... in the end 11 of us were good to their word and attended... Flights are fast and cheap and the hotels are roughly the same per head as a friday night out...

The invaded invaders - From meeting us at the airport, showing us to our hotels, ensuring we all knew how the public transport system worked, translating the menu's to taking us on wonderful canal boat rides, our hosts looked after us from the very beginning to the very end, all of us.....every single one! if i wore a cap i would doff it in your general direction.... never before has a con been more friendly..... and with military style tactics like these employed for the convention it is a suprise that the Netherlands has always had its ass kicked in wars!! Thankyou one and all........ I love you all

Help ive ruptured my spleen - I like a laugh....... However i have Never laughed as much in my whole life... this is the fault of my 'weekend' shipmates Max, John and Glenn........ who helped me along on my trip to the afterlife.... Thankyou guys it was a pleasure to spend second breakfasts with you (the first breakfast shall never be spoken of)

A pint of Carling please - Everyone that attended this con has now earnt the achievement 'Drink em' Dry'. We drank the venue out of 2 months worth of amstel in 2 days..... They rushed out and bought 8 litres of spiced rum which we emptied in 24 hours.... The venue was amazing from the staff to the food (apart from the nefarious bitterballen). The venue was meant to close at 0100 hours needless to say we had the odd lock in

Ive got a bike you can ride it if you like - People say that in Amsterdam there are alot of pushbikes, and they are right!!! The Dam puts China to shame on this mode of transport... and to top it off most users are also trained assassins it seems for they try to kill you constantly..... I think ill walk everywhere

These are'nt the games your looking for - Great games all signed up via pitching, all indie, all awesome..... Ive decided not to detail what i played as we agreed at two of the games that what happens in the Dam stays in the Dam. Random people known to no-one at the con pitched up and played in all slots too.. 4-5 games every slot.... Well done all

An appropriate adult - At ConDamned you need one of these.... Many thanks to Ash for being mine, although i died in that hotel it would have been on the cold streets if you had not have seen me safely back.... Thank you brother.

All in all ive had the best weekend ever (well at least since Karachi in 91 but you had to be there) i think that next year there is room for about another ten gamers to keep the cons vibe, and it would be a shame to loose that.

To those of you that went id like to thankyou for the magic
To those that didnt, you were not missed

Hopefully ive led a sinful life and i will not have attoned by the time next years con rolls around and once again we can sit in the sun on the streets watching some of Hollands finest fillies riding by drink cheap cold continental type beer and raise a glass to good old Salty :)
