What Tabletops were run at 2009?

Postby Grinnen Baeritt » 11:51am on 03 Feb 09

Once again we had a significant increase in the reported* table-top games run, which is a very pleasing statistic to announce.

351 Table-top Rpg's (compared to 2008's total of 293)

Once again I'd like to thank on behalf of my fellow organisers and myself all the Referee's and Organisers of ALL types of games (be they RPG's, LARPS or Board games) who make Conception what it has become. A truly diverse gaming experience.

The Table-top Top Ten

1. D&D 4.0 (86 Tables)
(of which 84 were Living Forgotten Realms...thanks Paul  )
2. D&D 3.0 and 3.5 (50 Tables)
(includes 20 Pathfinder, 8 each of Arcanis and LIHR and 5 Dragonmouth)
3. Call of Cthulhu (26 Tables)
4. Spycraft- For Queen and Country (18 Tables)
5. Savage Worlds (14 Tables)
6. Traveller (11 Tables)
7. Feng Shui (9 Tables)
8. Cursed Empire (8 Tables)
9. Pendragon (6 tables)- joint 9th)
9. When Worlds Collide (6 Tables) -joint 9th

There were a staggering total of 64 RPG systems in evidence at Conception, with D20 (and it's many derivatives) representing 36% of the games run.

* not included are unticketed games and those for which sign-ups were not returned. Statistics are based entirely upon signups returned (multiple table games i.e. The Great Gatsby and multiple-slot games (like The Weapon) are treated by the number of slots and tables used.)

Interesting numbers. Comparing them to previous years, D&D (in all, fantasy, flavours) has increased (but you would expect that with 4e just being released), Cthulhu has stabilized it's downturn, Spycraft continues to modestly climb, WFRP has dropped out of the Top 10 completely (not surprising) and Savage Worlds has entered the arena.

I'm going to have to see if we can't get it into the Top 3 or 4 next year ;)

Thanks for figures, as always they make interesting reading.

For those interested here's the table split for the various Living Campaigns:

1. LFR - 87 (6 of the tables were double slot) based on reporting sheets I've received
2. Pathfinder Society - 20
3. For Queen & Country - 18
4. Living Arcanis - 8
4. LIHR - 8 (actually 4 tables but each a double slot)
6. Dragonmouth - 5
7. Shadowrun Missions - not sure, know at least 2 took place.

I can't think of any way to track actual attendees or total player numbers. The closest would be how many tickets were sold but that won't give an accurate reading due to including tickets sold but not used and not including any demos or games that weren't ticketed.

My mate Nick ran a Pirates (not PotSM) game. His mate Robin ran a Vietnam one, which I think was from 'Tour of Darkness' but I'm not quite sure. I've a vague feeling this ran twice too.

I ran a space dungeon crawl using Savage Worlds rules and a set of 25 year old Britain's Space toys I found in my attic as miniatures. The highlight was probably when the PCs, in need of a ship, found a space junkyard, and I dumped out a pile of components onto the table and told them to get building.

A hurriedly prepared gimmick game, but good fun nonetheless.
