I think (and said to Peter this morning) that this was a serious confusion about which bar was open and when, and we need to get him to agree 100% to what is going on, make him sign to say he agrees with it and then let people know. I think if we prove we can drink a lot more (I find it hard to believe I'm typing this!) then we'll have more of a chance. Saturday night and being made to be out early was something to do with trouble there on previous Saturday nights. It would have helped if they had actually told me anything about that, I only heard about it in the pre MIB briefing.
Also
They sold hardly any food at the snack bar, which I hope means that everyone was eating real food, cooked at their chalets, and not starving themselves?
My drinking from the bar was curtailed pretty quickly when I was told that they had run out of Ringwood ale. As there wasn't an ale alternative, I stopped buying anything. I'd never have heard the last of it from Simon Lindsay if I'd switched to pints of fizz instead.

Longer meal break (at least, I think it was longer) between the afternoon and evening games provides, as well as a much needed chance to change clothes between larps without being in a panic, sufficient time to cook dinner. And sometimes even to nap.
Did grab snackbar food between a morning and afternoon game though...

Similarly my wife and I returned to our lodge to drink after discovering the only red wine by the glass was a French Merlot (on tap) that didn't taste too nice (my wife simply doesn't do French wine, they keep all the good stuff and export the crap!).
So, a better selection of drinks might encourage us
Also, I think the lack of table top running in the main area will seriously have affected drinking.
Next year I have permission to play in at least one tabletop as well as the LARPs and if I do, it will be in the main area

I mentioned as checking out that I felt like I'd had a great time and played lots of games, but I hadn't really found the time to actually talk to anybody... (I know there are midnight parties, but I never go to them, being always Far Too Tired.)
There was LARP (lots) and there was sleep (not enough) and there was not really a lot of hanging out.
Some shoving-around of schedules to make a larger social event in the Big Room sometime before the end of the con would be nice. (Of course, as a US congoer, and at a LARP-heavy convention where people are likely to have the kit... I suggest Costume Contest!

Unlike Conception where I often find myself running about like a Blue-Arsed Fly there seemed to be plenty of time between Slots to actually cook which was nice.
I'm not a great boozer during games, but I hardly noticed to bar being open although I did seem to find myself in games running in the closed fronr bar much of the time.

I was talking to the Bar staff and they were complaining about the lack of takings...
I do think something social would be a superb idea - but how to do it without impinging on gaming I don't know - perhaps some activity on Sunday Lunchtime as a farewell wind-up/prize giving etc??
Just a thought?

Cos-play always makes me squirm, and reach for a box of tissues. It just sounds so, well, sordid!
So would people be prepared to sacrifice a chunk of game time for an event?
I shall be writing a strongly worded letter to the Times

On the bar thing, i was a bit shocked that the bar in a room with 30 people in had 4 bar staff for about 1hr and then the bar was closed? While the lower bar with 10/15 people in it was kept open.

I would - there's a limit to how many personality changes I want to fit into four days, and there was a lack of somewhere to just sit around and chat most of the time.

Ditto, in fact my wife even said there should be a more official party as well that isn't after midnight (though note that this should be in addition to the private midnight parties

queenortart wrote:I'd forgotten this one. I am really not terribly happy about this, since we had agreed that this was fine back in April, with Naish.
The events chap Peter does seem to have a rather interesting memory for what has been agreed. I am tempted for next year to have him sign for things in BLOOD
This may be the wrong forum to suggest fixes, but it sounds like approved minutes from any discussions would probably be the best way to go there. Definitely anything that is agreed to be backed up in writing so you have a hard copy to wave under noses should it become a problem. Won't nessecarily fix the problem, but could very well improve your bargaining position next time round.
