Only the C7 store or will Leisure Games also have them, as they've done in previous years?

Not surprising that its around the same time of year, as its been going for so many years and its always been successful then, why change it? I'd also argue that there's a better selection of traders normally at Dragonmeet, but with t'interweb shopping as it is, I don't think stalls at cons are what they used to be - I have to actively try not to buy things when they come out, just so I can buy them at conventions.

Regrettably its a long was for my lot to come down for a one dayer, so it looks like I'll be missing out too, especially as I'm at the aforementioned IndieCon. Still, the entry price is cheap enough that people can turn up on the day if they want so you never know.

Would be good to have a website update in tandem with this, so potential ticket buyers can see the selling points...

With concessionary prices for armed forces? I've nothing against the armed forces, but why single them out for special treatment? Why not extend it to, for example, nurses and care-workers? Where does one stop? As I say I'm not knocking the armed forces just questioning the reason for this distinction and the grounds for it.

With the way gaming's going, concessions for pensioners could cause a funding problem. :D

As long as they don't start charging by the kilo I'll be happy.

Maybe a little thankyou from the gaming community, for what they are putting themselves through the fact they are on **** money and still paying 20% tax even though they are 1000's of miles from home... Many things offer a services discount... may have been mistaken by how you posted but you sound very whiney about it, does it affect you if a soldier back from Iraq gets a quid off? In fact if i knew a servicman was in the queue waiting to get in id buy his ticket myself!!!

Mick, I think Paul was very clear that he was just a bit surprised by it, and it prompted him to enquire.

Not that clear.... Why single them out for special attention? im not gonna get to involved in this, suffice to say 'many' servicmen are having a considerably tougher time atm than say nurses or care workers...... and its a nice gesture from the organisers in supporting our troops

Seems I opened my mouth and put my foot in it Mick; being bored a posting the first thing that springs to mind can be a dangerous business.

I wasn't previously aware of any concessions for the services in the UK, though I've seen them in the USA at theme parks. I'd prefer that those who work were paid a decent wage, though clearly that's not likely to happen anytime soon. What a decent wage would be for risking life and limb I've no idea, but clearly more than at present.

[off-topic]
The US definitely seem to offer more concessions to military personnel than here in the UK (they even have an entire Disneyworld (Florida) hotel just for them!). That said, there are lots of military concessions here in the UK but they aren't advertised very often (or even well). Of course, as ex-military (and married to serving military), I'm biased ;)

My dad was impressed with how the ex-military are treated in the Philippines, but I pointed out to him that it was really only the ex-generals and it was because they still knew people who could have you shot. This didn't seem to have occurred to him.

Giving a discount for any specific group of people is going to be based on a degree of bias for the person giving the discount and is a mixture of attempting to increase market share (cheap fish n chips for pensioners on a Wednesday lunch time) looking to get better service when it matters (Starbucks discount for paramedics, free chips for the local policeman) or feeling that a certain bit of society is hard done by and needs extra help (concessions for the unemployed/disabled/servicemen) with all of them they are completely subjective and some people will see it as the right thing to do and others will see it as an odd statement of what a business stands for.

In this case, the post didn't come across as whiney it was just a query as to what made one group worth singling out.

While RPG's aren't particularly based out of wargames, you can see a pretty obvious link[1] there so that's as good a reason as any for the choice to have been made whether they are the hardest done by workers in society or not. And deciding that last bit is just personal politics and nobody wants to go there here.

[1] I'd imagine that being based in Wiltshire Angus sees a lot of squaddies too which can't hurt the decision process.
