Suggest films to watch in October

Postby w00hoo » 3:21pm on 01 Sep 11

Right, we cleaned the slate last time, so up to two suggestions each, let's have some films to watch.

Suggestions up until the middle of the month, then the poll will go up.

Saturn 3: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079285/

Two lovers stationed at a remote base in the asteroid fields of Saturn are intruded upon by a retentive technocrat from Earth and his charge: a malevolent 8-ft robot. Harvey Keitel, Kirk Douglas and Farrah Fawcett.

The Medusa Touch: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077921/

Psychological thriller about a novelist, a telekinetic, who causes disasters simply by thinking about them. Richard Burton and Lee Remick are the big names, but keep an eye out for Jeremy "Sherlock Holmes" Brett, and Derek Jacobi.

Capricorn one: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077294/

The Mission was a sham, the murders were real. A NASA Mars mission won't work, and its funding is endangered, so they decide to fake it just this once. But then they have to keep the secret... Elliott Gould, James Brolin, OJ Simpson, Hal Holbrock (you might not recognise the name, but the face is everywhere in the 70s), and Telly Savalas star.

It's out on DVD soon so Thor

And because I got it free yesterday when I bought Deus Ex, Blade Runner - the Final Cut

On a side note guys, can we try and use the Amazon link button that was provided by Dave for when we link to films?
Doesn't it end up generating money for prizes or something?

The amazon link does bring money back in to UKRP which Dave then uses for prizes, so tagging with it is a good thing. I make sure that all final winners links (and poll links) go through that though, so using a Wiki or IMDB link at the first stage shouldn't really matter and probably gives a better source of information on the film.

Sorry. I have a boycott on Amazon after their extremely dodgy and sick practices were brought to my attention (and no, this has nothing to do with Wikileaks).

My suggestions are

Moon - which I've not seen but had heard good things about and was reminded of while listening to an R4 science program on the drive home where they mentioned the Helium-3 harvesting as being good technology.

and

Dogma which is probably the most accessible of the Kevin Smith - View Askewniverse films with a decent story line and some of the best stuff Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have done, before becoming big changed their focus. Possibly the being mates side of things allowed Smith to get the most out of them. Focussing on Jay and Silent Bob works well and the ancillary characters add to things. It's a good ensemble cast saving the day type movie.

I've watched Dogma, Dark City (director's cut) and Thor recently. All excellent films.

A far less fantastic film than many of the others we get in these polls...

Good Night and Good Luck http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0433383/

...a tale of journalistic courage in McCarthyist America. Black and white, wordy.

Right, we've about a dozen films so far, heiowge I'm going to take your first two unless you want to specify which one you're dropping (we all know rules make everything fantastic :-) ) and I'm going to move from suggesting to voting some time at the end of Thursday/Friday. So anyone with a film or two (and no more) that they want to suggest, get them in before you go to bed on Thursday.

Take the latter 2. I'll add Saturn 3 back in if one of the others gets watched. :D
