"Wendy"Con/ConDamned - can you attend?

So, for lack of a better name, I'm dubbing it WendyCon at the moment, but that will very probably change in the future Anywho - we're underway planning this in earnest and think we've found a venue in Amsterdam where we can organise this con.

The venue offers a gaming hall in which we can fit 35-55 pple. It's free, as long as we get our drinks at the bar and not somewhere else. No bringing your own stuff either I think. Near the venue is a youth hostel with beds ranging from 19 euro a night (mixed sleeping hall) to 24ish a night for beds in a four pple dorm (and anything in between). Price-wise, this seems doable.

Obviously, the cap for the con lies at 55 (though I don't think we will get as many people). It would be great if we could get the minimum of 35 though. So, I'd like to use this thread as a yes/no type of thing.

Mick suggested we organise this con in june, in the weekend of june 16th-17th to be specific.

So! Is this a good date for you, and would you come to play with us? Please let us know in this thread.

Yeah I agree with Mick (Surprise!) the date is good as the con scene goes quiet in the Summer months.
The only thing I have a concern with is flight costs.

Which is why we are planning quite far ahead - we might possibly be able to lessen flight costs if you guys can book early.

The only thing I have a concern with is flight costs.

I was kinda initially thinking that we'd ferry it across.

The bracing sea air, the listing side to side, beers and banter in the bar, a crooner singing lullabies: does the sweet romance of a ferry crossing not appeal? Compared to the abbatoir-like herding of flying across on a squashed jet, pissing about with baggage, and no crooning lullaby, the ferry sounds Le Awesome does it not?

FlyBE flies from Southampton to Amsterdam Schiphol a couple of times per day. Currently, prices seem to be just below the 70 pound mark for a return ticket, with only the Sunday night trip being more expensive. I'm sure other options from other airports are also available. From previous trips I'd say prices will be similar. Some popular flights tend to go up in price as the planes fill up, though.

We only have experience with the Calais/Dunkirk ferries and the Eurotunnel, seem to recall the ferries directly to the Netherlands (Harwich - Hoek van Holland) being not so great cost and timewise. Eurotunnel is hella fast but more expensive compared to the ferries there.

I think the date is definatly sound as the con calender is weak there.... also if its decided to set that date, we may be able to get cheaper flights with that kind of notice
