[UKRP 2011 Awards] Game of the Year 2011
Hi there,
here it is your chance to vote the RP GOTY 2011.
The following rules apply:
The game must have made it's official release in 2011.
The game must be available to purchase or download.
You can nominate as many games as you like.
Just to remind you last year we had 2 winners:
Beat to Quarters & Dead of Night 2.
Here is why:
Beat to Quarters
To vote for your winner of 2011 all you need do is write a short citation as to why you think the game you are nominating should win this award.
The judging of the award will be down to the votes you receive from the committee based on the citation you have submitted.
Thanks in advance for your input.

Beat to Quarters & Dead of Night 2.
Here is why:
Beat to Quarters
- Best ship to ship combat rules ever!
- provides good-natured, boys-own adventure, even if you know nothing about Napoleonic warfare.
- Beat to Quarters affords you to play a military based game with different ranks, background and goals for all the players, yet still weave the story together and keep everyone involved.
- Very character focussed game which can almost be run as a pick up game with little prep
- powerful character driven game where you can play out great sea battles with dodgy cardboard krakens and Lego men.
- an inspired character creation process that allows you the power to choose important aspects of your character's story whilst also producing random & interesting snippets of back-story
- or its character creation system that works so well with the setting material.
- its character creation system that works so well with the setting material
- for daring to be different, for striking out and filling a niche very nicely.
- its combat system lets all the players contribute, no matter how disparate their skills/actions.
- it presents a very cinematic, exciting system/setting with just the right amount of rules to keep it a "game" and still enables the to generate great stories. J
- From character creation to interaction to skirmish level it's all fantastic, interactive storytelling that gets everyone involved.
- no matter what rank or character you play you can make a difference.
- It is an artistic delight to behold and a sure-fire reason why Paul Bourne should get more RPG gigs!
- DoN is rules-lite enough that you can run a game with little or no prep while having enough substance that it still provides satisfaction on the horror front.
- can take you from a loose idea to a playable horror movie in minutes.
- because kenners has got a very easy to read writing style which I dig.
- light touch rules make it an able backbone for telling stories in a variety of horror or thriller genres
- tension rules marry mechanics with theme elegantly
- because of the awesome and in-depth support it provides to GMs to enable them to run just the sort of game they want.
- Fast to pick up and play

Re: [UKRP 2011 Awards] Game of the Year 2011
I'm struggling here. I couldn't find a decent list of RPGs released in 2011. Let alone a list of decent RPGs. Can anyone link me up?

Re: [UKRP 2011 Awards] Game of the Year 2011
Part of the problem with my potential nominees is that many of them were released in 2010 but really 'hit the headlines' in 2011 - thinking here specifically about Fiasco and Smallville.

Same for me with Gamma World and Leverage.
I know I haven't kept completely up to date with the wider hobby in a while but it really looks like 2011 was a comparatively dry year.

Re: [UKRP 2011 Awards] Game of the Year 2011
In fact, Toad, didn't the games from last year sort of overlap into the previous year a little? BtQ was released at the end of 2009 iirc, for example.

That was because last year was the first one so a longer qualification period was allowed.

In which case I'm going to nominate Smallville, which whilst technically launched right at the tail-end of 2010, didn't reach UK shores until 2011 (http://www.ukroleplayers.com/latest-rel ... uary-2011/)
(holding space for nomination text ... in a rush!)

Re: [UKRP 2011 Awards] Game of the Year 2011
Microscope: A clean and innovative system for telling sweeping stories of empires rising & falling, all within a typical RPG session. I've played it three times and thoroughly enjoyed the way unexpected stories emerge from the players' collective decisions. Also to be commended for putting a stake through the heart of creation-by-committee syndrome that weakens numerous other story-games.
Groundhoggoth has spawned!

Re: [UKRP 2011 Awards] Game of the Year 2011
Kerberos Club has several iteration now and so deserves a nomination for the publisher giving people a choice of weapon to run it with. Its that lovely Victorian genre that everyone likes and a bit League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

You're nominating a game because:
A: It's a book
B: It gives you rabies
Nice!
