Shadow Warriors at Conception 2012

Postby magestones » 6:16pm on 20 Jan 12

Boy doesn't time fly............ Conception is almost upon us.

We are happy to confirm we will be running the following games.

For more details Check Here

RPGs:

Beat to Quarters:
Aliens (GM John)
Slot 6: Friday 2pm - 6pm
Slot 11: Sunday 10am - 2pm
Contact has been lost with the colony on LV-432. You and your fellow colonial marines will save them from whatever danger threatens them. Is this a communications failure or an invasion? Will it be a stand up fight or a bug hunt? Will you fight close in or take off and nuke the site from orbit? Only you can decide....

Beat to Quarters scenario for 6 players, familiarity with the Aliens film is useful: Pre Gens supplied.
(Any level of experience welcome.)
Please Note this game is for 16+ gamers only.

Call of Cthulhu:
Flight 1916 (GM Max)
Slot 3: Thursday 2pm - 6pm
France, 1916, Verdun, the front line in the Great War, not a place for the feint of heart. Add to that the fact that you are a pioneering pilot in the fledgling RFC and you have the recipe for daring deeds and excitement well beyond the call of duty. This is an awful war, the loss of which cannot be contemplated. You are here to help ensure the Hun menace is stopped and beaten. Nothing overshadows that. But you can't help feel the thrill of the flight, the sheer adventure of pioneering the piloting of machines that most would rather go to the front line trenches than get in to. The war for the skies is one you are confident you can help win: control of the skies is everything to you and your comrades.

1916 Call of Cthulhu scenario, 4 - 6 Investigators required: pre-gen characters supplied.
(All levels of Cthulhu experience welcome, including none!)
Please Note that we ran this adventure at Conception 2011 and Shadow Con V and is for Mature minded gamers only.

The Legacy (GM John)
Slot 3: Thursday 2pm - 6pm
Slot 9: Saturday 2pm - 6pm
The winter of 1936 sees the DeVille family reunited after the death of their father. As one of a family used to tragedy, perhaps this is an opportunity for you to escape the family curse. You have all returned home to hear the reading of the will. Can you solve the riddle of your father’s death before tragedy strikes once more? Will you keep your secret safe, even if means taking it to your grave? Who will take on the family Legacy?

1930 Cthulhu scenario for 6 players. Pre generated characters supplied.
(All levels of Cthulhu experience welcome, including none!)
Please Note that we ran this adventure at Shadow Con V and IndieCon 2011 and is for Mature minded gamers only.

Dark Desires (GM Max)
Slot 4: Thursday 7pm - 11pm
New Orleans, 1930, a city alive with the clashing cultures and peoples that have made it famous for its diversity, its tolerance, its many different quarters, housing as it does those from many different faiths, creeds and cultures. You live here. You know the city has a darker side. You like it here. Being a resident of New Orleans means accepting that the ‘tourists’ must come and go, must leave their money, they have to be tolerated as much as any other section of society. But you’re no tourist, you belong here. There are many things to be wary of in this multi-faceted city: take nothing on face value and never belittle another’s faith or superstition. You know the unspoken rules: family and friends first, you look out for your own. This is a time when the old loyalties will be tested.

1930 Call of Cthulhu scenario, 4 - 6 Enlightened Investigators required: pre-gen characters supplied: This game includes 3 Female Investigator characters.
Please Note this game is for Mature minded gamers only.

Inimicus inimici mei amicus meus est - The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend (GM Max)
Slot 5: Friday 9am - 1pm
711 AUC, Rome. Augustus is Ceasar, the Empire is as solid and prosperous as it’s ever been even if Augustus is not universally liked and respected by the Senate elite. Now is the time to repair the damage done to your reputation and station, a time to regain the honour and position in Roman society that you deserve. Now is the time to act. Senator Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus and his loyal Household members strive to regain the Senator’s position as a trusted member of the Senate. It’s time to come back from the wilderness of the Province of Ardea, time to return to the centre stage, to take back some power and respect.

Roman Call of Cthulhu scenario, 4 - 6 Loyal Investigators required: pre-gen characters supplied.
(All levels of Cthulhu experience welcome, including none!)
Please Note that we ran this adventure at Shadow Con V

Firefly: Blue Sun Rising (GM Max)
Slot 6: Friday 2pm - 6pm
Slot 10: Saturday 7pm - 11pm
A nice easy job. I wonder what that would be like? Renshaw set it up, seemed like doing him a favour would work out all round. Then the Alliance showed up, busted the drop, Tian Fuhn Di Fu. River got grabbed. Serenity got badly shot up. Barely made it out with the cargo and the injured Renshaw. Now you’re hid out on Muir and you don’t have a lot of options. Nearest friendly face, Renshaw’s contact Wilson, is here on Muir, in Compton. Alliance will take River to the holding facility before they ship her out to god knows where. A deal with Wilson could be the only way to get River back. So now you have a plan: drop Renshaw at a med facility, repair Serenity, go get River with the help of Wilson after you’ve retrieved some goods he wants from an old Alliance mine. The Alliance won’t move River for two or three days: clock is ticking.

Firefly ‘verse Call of Cthulhu, 4 - 6 Serenity crew required: pre-gen characters supplied.
Please Note: This scenario uses 6 of the 9 main Firefly characters as PCs.
(All levels of Cthulhu experience welcome, including none! Some knowledge of Firefly would be cool.)

The Badari Serekh (GM Max)
Slot 11: Sunday 10am - 2pm
London, 1924, the British Museum has called you in to help them with a mystery: one of their books is missing. So why you? Well, they presume that as you are from the expedition that found the book in the first place, that you may be best placed to find it again. You hoped you’d never see or hear of that damned book ever again. But deep down you know there is only you: you and those that faced the insanity and fear with you when you first found it. You are the only ones really equipped to deal with the terror the book could bring. It will doubtless be a test that will finally break some of you, but you know the world cannot suffer the consequences of the book falling in to the wrong hands.

1924 Call of Cthulhu scenario, 4 - 6 Dogged Investigators required: pre-gen characters supplied.
(All levels of Cthulhu experience welcome, including none!)
Please Note that we ran this adventure at Conception 2011

Deathwatch:
Ghosts from the Past - Part Two (GM John)
Slot 5: Friday 9am - 1pm
Slot 8: Saturday 9am - 1pm
A long-lost star-system returns from the warp; An ancient prophecy is on the verge of being fulfilled; Fate watches as powerful forces gather there.
When an imperial communication is detected from the system, your team is sent to discover the truth. As powerful member of the imperium, the fate of the planet, and the future of the empire rests in your hands.

Dark Heresy Ascension/Deathwatch scenario for 6 players, familiarity with the 40K universe is useful: Pre Gens supplied.
(Any level of experience welcome.)
Please Note this game is for 16+ gamers only.

Order of the Pointy Sticks:
We are the Borg. Assimilation (GM Pam)
Slot 9: Saturday 2pm - 6pm
We are the Borg. Assimilation
Your unique patterns will be added to ours!
The minions of the Order of the Pointy Sticks are gathering for an afternoon of knitting, crochet and general role playing. Beginners are welcome. Dice may be used at some point (but don’t count on it).

A Order of the pointy Sticks scenario for up to 10 knitters: Wool supplied.
(Any level of knitting/crochet experience welcome)
Please Note that game is for Yarn minded gamers only.

SLA Industries:
Careful with that Axe Francine - (4-6 Operatives - 1 Squad): (GM Max)
Slot 12: Sunday 3pm - 7pm
Mort, 604 SD. The Department of Archaeology has assigned you to this Green BPN via your Financier, Harry Snow: payback for a favour you owed him for getting your squad out of the fire with Internal Affairs. It seems a small price to pay for not having to face a full investigation from IA for the debacle of your last BPN. And anyway, how hard can it be? Meet with Francine Saunders, an Archaeologist, bring her back with some artefact she’s found on the Resource World of Tal-Melan. Money for nothing! But this is the World of Progress, and not even you would be foolish enough not to suspect things will not go as smoothly as they should. You’re prepared for it, you’re ready to score some creds and get your name known as a ‘can-do’ squad. Bring it on!

SLA Industries scenario, 4-6 Well prepped Operatives required: pre-gen characters supplied.
(Any level of SLA Industries experience welcome, including none!)
Please Note that we ran this adventure at Shadow Con V

Board Games:

UPDATED 24th January

We can now confirm which adventures will be run in Descent!

For more details Check Here

The Settlers of Catan
Slot 3: Thursday 2pm - 6pm
Slot 9: Saturday 2pm - 6pm
Die Siedler Von Catan (Settlers of Catan), the classic board game from Kosmos. Expand your colony to conquer the island of Catan, through the building of settlements, roads, and villages by harvesting commodities from the land around you. Trade sheep, lumber, bricks and grain for a settlement, bricks and wood for a road, or try to complete other combinations for more advanced buildings, services and special cards. Trade with other players, or at local seaports to get resources you might lack. The first player to achieve 10 points from a combination of roads, settlements, and special cards wins. English rules available. German game of the year 1995

Descent
Slot 2 & 3: Thursday 9am - 6pm (Double Slot)
Buried Alive:
After days of travel, you’ve trailed the Blacktooth ogre tribe to an old abandoned mine that they’ve holed up in. A week ago they kidnapped the Duke, and his family begged you to rescue him. Looking around the entrance you unfold the map that an old miner sold you not an hour ago, when it became apparent where the tribe’s path led. The first thing you notice about the map are the words Unstable Ceiling written in large letters. Teriffic!
. Can you survive?

Slots 5: Friday 9am - 1pm
Into The Dark:
You were sitting by the fire in the Salty Dog tavern enjoying a beer or two when an old man in a tattered robe approached. Leaning heavily on his walking stick he said, “I see great potential in you”. Eyes glittering he thrust a crumpled scroll towards you, “Here take this map. It leads to a dungeon ruled by the giant Narthak. He is a dangerous foe, but there is great wealth to be won in his domain. Prove yourself by killing him and perhaps we’ll meet again”. With that the old man hobbled out the door, vanishing into the night.
. Can you survive?

Slot 8 & 9: Saturday 9am - 6pm (Double Slot)
Buried Alive:
After days of travel, you’ve trailed the Blacktooth ogre tribe to an old abandoned mine that they’ve holed up in. A week ago they kidnapped the Duke, and his family begged you to rescue him. Looking around the entrance you unfold the map that an old miner sold you not an hour ago, when it became apparent where the tribe’s path led. The first thing you notice about the map are the words Unstable Ceiling written in large letters. Teriffic!
. Can you survive?

Slot 11: Sunday 10am - 2pm
The Brothers Durnog:
You were busy spending the loot you’d gotten from the Narthak’s lair when an out of breath boy ran up to you, “Please, great heroes, you must help us. Though you’ve slain Narthak, his two elder brothers, Munkar and Nakir, have been enraged and begun to terrorize the countryside in search of you. The King asks that you slay the brothers and promises that you will be well rewarded”. His message delivered the boy hands you a map leading to their lair, then departs.
. Can you survive?

Wings of War
Slot 6: Friday 2pm - 6pm
Slot 11: Sunday 10am - 2pm
Take to the skies as one of the legendary knights of the air. Fly your fragile biplane over the trenches of the Western Front, engage the enemy in a test of nerve and skill and, for the fortunate few, celebrate victory.

Wings of War is a simple game for 2 or more players. The rules can be learned in minutes, so before you know it you will be thrust into a whirling dogfight where only the skillful and lucky will survive.

Dog Fighting over the Western Front:
Players can join in at any time throughout the game as replacements are rushed to the front to fill the gaps left by those who have fallen. Likewise pilots may retreat back to the hanger for well earned rest and recuperation, only to rejoin the fray later.
Catch the Pigeon:
The messenger pigeon carries vital information to further the ends of the war. Both sides want that information, but only one is going to end the day with the prize. Take to the skies in your 'dastardly' flying machines in a test of skill, courage and no small amount of luck. Bonus points will be awarded to players with customised 'Vulture Squadron' models.

Just a heads up that The Legacy - Slot 3: Thursday 2pm - 6pm "might" be moved to the earlier Slot 2: Thursday 9am - 1pm. At present its only a "maybe" we won't be able to confirm until sometime tomorrow (Wednesday), but as I'm unlikely to have internet access over Conception, I thought I'd let people know in advance.

I'd be well interested in hearing more about how this went or seeing any notes from the games.

Top banana effort from the Shadow Warriors again, loads of good stuff on show and many games run. I'll have to get myself in one next time... ;)

Just wanted to say a big "Thanks!" for the Settlers game on Saturday. It's one of my favourite games, but certain people in my group don't like it, so I rarely get the chance to play it. So thanks for giving me the opportunity :)

Sadly, my wheat-focussed strategy didn't work quite as well as intended, but, hey, I'll be happy with 2nd place :D
