Dogs In The Vineyard :: Lands of Milk & Honey

Postby Pete » 6:48pm on 10 Nov 11

Being a Compilation of 76 Towns Full Of Something Wrong for the Dogs In The Vineyard Role-Playing Game.

So This Guy On The Internet web-scraped the official Dogs in the Vineyard forums over on the Forge and dumped a big ol' text file on Story Games. Another Guy On The Internet turned that raw mess into both a PDF and a reStructuredText document.

It's a bit rough and ready, but if you need a Dogs in the Vineyard Town a little bit of pick-up play one evening, there's plenty of sin and suchlike in this compilation to use as-is or to fuel the creation of your own Town. I don't think any of the Townsfolk have stats, but goodness, stats are easy enough to whip up in Dogs.

Cheers

Who cares? ..... Dogs is **** :D

On a more serious note this is an excellent resource as i always found town creation to be the hardist part, good linkage Pete

Here are two more Dogs Towns from The Mullenator and Ye Milton Keynes RPG Clubbe: Dog Towns.

I ain't much for prep, so I reckon these one of these two Towns will be getting a run out at Indiemeet. After a year or so of running just GM-less/GM-ful games I've been hankering to run a GM'd game, and Dogs has been up there challenging for a spot: but dang, I'd have to write a Town and that's why it's not been right at the top.

Nice one James, cheers!

You know, I've just realised the cunning flaw in the first Dogs PDF I posted a link to: there's too many damn Towns in it. I can't be bothered reading it. I've got reading paralysis.

I reckon a little editing is in order. Maybe pick the Top 10 Best Realised and Punchy Towns, and present a more considered PDF: smaller and with better layout that uses the same typefaces as the Dogs in the Vineyard core text. That'd make it a useful and usable resource.

Of course, there is a cunning flaw in this otherwise good idea: I'll have to read that big honking document  :D

If anyone has a favourite Town from that docco, chime on in. I'll knock on the door of the Mullenator if his two Towns make the cut too :)

Might wanna break it down on what sins/themes are represented too, so that you don't get 10 towns all based on homosexual adultery (because I know that's yo' thing).

The only font used is OldStyle btw, available for free here: http://www.cthulhulives.org/toybox/prop ... fonts.html

I'd love to help you do this: get a resource which is just single A4 sheets, each with a town ready for play. Like, with NPC stats, rules summaries etc. I can get a template sorted?

Cheers!

Ohh, that's a good idea, nice one.

Yeah, I've got that puppy. I'm not quite a typography nut, but I do like my fonts. When you're ready to best me on TypeWar, let me know :D

I kiss you! (Evidently that's my thing, so you shouldn't be too surprised.)

That'd be hot. I shall make a start on classifying the Towns by Sin/Theme/Awesome.

Cheers

I was gonna read through these and pick out some interesting ones. But I think the professional Pete and Rich opinion may be better informed.

Sounds good, I might even step up and run a game if they're any good - town creation sucks mondo ass. :D

MemeGenerator is just too good to pass up sometimes though. I'd have done one responding to Gaz, but that's like shooting ducks in a, er, duck factory.
