New GM scheme

Postby dr_mitch » 9:02pm on 12 Oct 16

One thing we're planning this year is a scheme for those new or inexperienced at convention GMing, or who have fallen out of the habit, whether through bad experiences, lack of time, or other factors.

Seven Hills is a small and friendly convention, and a great place to break into the joys (and it *is* joyful) of convention GMing. We'll have mentors for new GMs, and maybe a small bribe.

Watch this space! And thanks to Newt Newport for the discussion which sparked this off.

Minor (Pebsie here) ran his first convention game at Furnace and it might be worth picking his brain as to how he believed it went and how he felt in the run up.

I did write a bit of advice for running games at conventions, sharing my experience at running at many different conventions.
You may find it useful?

Just some quick questions:How much GM-Fu is needed to level up in the GM class? Is it one session for a named convention or x-number of sessions across multiple conventions?

I am still a newbie GM for certain conventions and some I am even yet to attend.
How many attendances are needed per-convention to gain the "regular attendee" talent for that convention?

Many thanks, to the twin deities of the Seven Hills planar domain.

It's a good question, and one where I don't want to give a numerical answer. My answer is that if you consider yourself a GM who would like to take part, then you are. I'm not going to police it, and I trust people not to abuse the system!

I've sent you an e-mail. :)

Thanks, Dr_Mitch. I leveled up in the GM Class after my first adventure at Furnace.

But then when I ventured into the Seven Hills, I my GM hero got taken out without mercy by some savvy Players.

Hopefully, I have now stocked up a suitable cache of those magical "Potions of Heroism" to grant me enough temporary hit points per hour of play to survive maxed-out power players that come my way. :geek:
