GoPlay Leeds 23rd July 2017

Postby negromaestro » 11:52pm on 01 Jul 17

Happy new month everyone.

VENUE: "The Brunswick" pub by North Street, Leeds.

http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/pubs/83286/

Games will start by 12:00 noon after everyone gathers round for a muster and choice of games on offer.

With the Modiphius pre-orders of Star Trek Adventures in full swing this month, we offer a chance to play one of the official adventures. Of course there will be other games sytsems on offer too, maybe even Star Wars with the FFG funky dice or the WED d6.

(a) Biological Clock (and Prime Directive)
System: Star Trek Adventures (2d20)
Players: 6

“Biological Clock” is a scenario that presents the crew of a Starfleet vessel with an ethical dilemma weighing the future of an intelligent species against the Prime Directive, Starfleet’s most important regulation that outlaws interference in the development of alien societies.

The adventure also gives player characters the opportunity to solve a mystery on a remote planet and initiate first contact with a strange race of aliens who originate from a place beyond the confines of normal space and time.

I will endeavour to bring some Old School D&D. I don't know if anyone has played Deep Carbon Observatory.

System: Swords and Wizardry.

Once long ago there was a Kingdom of unspeakable wealth that traded in dark wonders, secrets and death. And many of the strange things now on earth were theirs. They drew their magic from a place and guarded it fiercely against all. Then, out of spite (somehow) as their kingdom slowly died, they hid their treasure palace in a lake and set there sleepless and indestructible guards.Everyone knows where it is: on the Lock, upriver of Carrowmore. No one who goes there ever comes back.

Starfleet's finest did "boldly go" and make first contact with obviously alien species (though not that alien in the exploitation of one species of another department).

The Andorian Captain held his cool and ensured the whole team paid more than just lip-service to The Prime Directive, though interestingly, the Vulcan Science officer was skirting with controversial ideas. The team's Security officer almost escalated the situation on planetside, but later redeemed herself by saving the day and preventing a supposedly logical Vulcan from doing something improbable.

Of course the team's Doctor showed great initiative in ameliorating inter-species conflict from the Security officer's brash actions upon first contact with frightful aliens.

And, who can forget the dynamic duo of the Engineering and Conn officers, who did their part for this mission too, but fumbled at the final hurdle to save an alien species from a grim fate. Could this just be because one had a subtle drinking problem and the other a whiff of narcissism that made his head swell?

All in all, Starfleet never fails to offer interesting adventures.

Thanks, to Guy, Patrick, Sam, Neil, Barry, and Steve.

(ps. This is definitely Picard's era. The holodeck bridge sported a taint of hipster art decor)
