Jaquaying the Dungeon

Postby satbunny » 4:11pm on 16 Aug 17

I was talking to somebody at the conference at the weekend about that situation where the player characters Walk Right Through the left hand side of your adventure and completely ignore 80% of it.
There is a solution to this and it's about insuring that your dungeon or your adventure design Loops back into itself so that the players can never completely miss all the elements. It's called:
Jaquaying the Dungeon, which is a lovely tribute to one of the founders of our hobby.

I believe the Drow/Lich Queen D&D modules did this (its a long time ago)

If you took the outer pathway and just kept skirting the far side of the map, you could miss out the entire middle module.

She also created the Enchanted Wood for Dragonquest which is a beauty of a sandbox

She did. So much for so many early systems and still at it.
