The new Tavern will not support Tapatalk, our webmaster dislikes it's security holes.

What security holes? All you give them is your username and password. The only security hole I can think of is if you're stupid enough to use that same password elsewhere.

I believe at the admin/database level our sysadmin has doubts.
It wouldn't stop me, I used Tapatalk before, but that is the technical position of the new Tavern.

I'll be honest. The lack of app support would put me off because the alternative is usually a poor "mobile" theme.

We believe the mobile theme is good.
But I wanted to make it clear up front.

I know some used to have problems with netbooks and mobile themes.

We have been considering if people would like a creative commons licensed wiki alongside the new Tavern to use for more archival purposes and shared content.

In terms of my posts, The Bargain Bookstore is best started over; any deals posted there are likely to be long out of date.

My book reviews are copied from my LibraryThing reviews so again there's no angst on my part for them to disappear.

It might be worth running the old and new fora in parallel for a couple of weeks, so the new forum starts pre-populated.

Likewise, the book reviews I post are all held in my blog backup. So if we want to repopulate I can do it.

I apologise for my grumpiness about forums in general on another thread. It will be nice to have the Tavern back, and there's clearly a place for it, both for me and for others.

I'm looking forward to the return.

The mobile theme is better than some I have seen.

As we know, the keys to a vibrant BBS are a friendly useable interface and content.

I am confident we have a good BBS platform, even without Tapatalk, although I know some will walk at that news.
I also wonder if we need anymore, and maybe Dave's (and my) experience suggests that all extra functionality is rarely used.

In some ways the volume of people may be less important than the content, so it will be key that, like here, we have champions happy to keep posting.
Maddie and Dom are great at pumping out the literature.
I'll ramble about anything.
Negromaestrao will always tell us the latest 2d20 game, and so on.
Simon Burley keeps up to date with his con reports.
Vile lets us know what he's up to and so on.
Bearing in mind that I don't mind if we are 30, but that we are 30 tha enjoy talking to each other:
Who would like to step forward and very broadly suggest which sorts of areas they'd like to champion, e.g. not just general chat but a specific topic they can be head consultant on?

Which raises a question, do we have individual game genre forums or pile in together and keep warm?

I suspect the answer is a small number of forums, but interesting in hearing..

Bar
RPGs
Boardgames
Wargames and minis
Bazaar
Finding Players and Clubs
BBS and ICT

Can I suggest rather than splitting things thin too early, you bundle them big and see what drops off.

(How many times have I said THAT sentence in my life?!)

((Once as it happens, but you know, lols))

It should be relatively painless to spin out a new sub-forum should the need arise.
