The Gaming Tavern is a comfortable place for the discussion of fantasy, science fiction, visual, literary and in gaming. This forum is the successor to the much loved Gaming Tavern 2004-2016 RIP.

That's great news! Looking forward to it.
I'd happily post actual plays, if I ever manage to get a group to play regularly. All a bit erratic right now.

Do you have a domain address for it yet, even if not set up? When you know it might be worth noting here so folks can bookmark it with time to spare before that big space boulder hits and we lose all that's here.

I agree with everyone that posting in a general forum for RPGs at least to start with would be good. One thing that would help users though would be a sticky post recommending the use of tags in post titles, and potentially indicating common tags to use e.g. RQG = RuneQuest Glorantha vs MRQ = Mongoose RuneQuest. So you can then easily scan through post titles to see what gets your interest something like the following...

[Fate] Thoughts on Venture City for Marvel supers game?
[RQG] How do the final rules differ from the quickstart
[D&D5] Anyone got Xanathar's Guide To Everything? Thoughts?
[MTrav2] Are 1st ed books still usabled with 2nd ed Mongoose Traveller?
[Savage Worlds] I just got Flash Gordon!
etc

I am not sure there is much to the guide, other than common abbreviations for some games that have a longer name, or multiple ambiguous editions (like RuneQuest!). It may just be easier to say use the full RPG name with the exception of D&D as that is such a widely known abbreviation.

Happy to collate abbreviations if desired, though I would suggest using a thread to do it (which I could start) so everyone could add their preferred game and abbreviation (I was going to put MongTrav in my examples, but though "Mong" might not be appropriate).

Shout if you want me to start a thread on this.

Update from Simon, our database and web manager:

----
Upgraded Xenforo licence, which gets us a major version upgrade to v2.0. This invalidates the skin I had previously, but also renders it unnecessary as reactive styles now incorporated into core product.

Built local Linux environment with Apache, PHP and MySQL 5.5 for testing purposes. Currently tweaking PHP for v2 requirements prior to starting local testing

We should have something solid up and running very soon, which should provide a great place to come and chat and share our hobby. Lots of ideas already, but the door is always open for more as we continue to develop a fab place for everyone.

Thanks to Simon for putting together a robust platform for all the fun to take place.

I'm looking forward to having my UKRoleplayers/Tavern home continue from where we are now. I use G+ extensively and Facebook for Convention chat, but I've always felt that a friendly Hub seals the deal. 8)

I always liked the Tavern. A gentle pace of discussion, and lots around RPGs such as books and TV. And a more musing approach to things, with a different tone and tastes; there were plenty of things I spoke about in the Tavern rather than UKRP.

I quietly sulked for a long time when it burned down, and resolved not to get too attached to a forum. Now, with UKRP closing, I failed in my aim not to get attached.

But it will be absolutely lovely to see the Tavern mark two. I'll be there.
