Postby negromaestro » 7:32pm on 29 May 17

I am so excited to be running Robert E. Howard's Conan with a focus on the Black Kingdoms of the South.

Hopefully, I will be able to make the "rules-heavy" 2d20 system run effortlessly and provide a fun experience.

Very smart. I'll check out the reddit space, would never think to go there. I see that Infinity isn't even at the bottom of the list! [WINKING FACE]

Ha ha ha! I called "Ïnfinity" by its full name "Corvus Belli's Infinity".

The good new for the Infinity RPG is that they are nearly through with the error logs and should be in print soon.

As of last night we were 80% through the final error log and it's still ongoing - the team are aiming to wrap by Friday. Once this is complete we’ll be sending to Corvus Belli for final approval. We’ll still be grinding away at proof reading but the file will be materially ready and with CB’s blessing we’ll be delivering this to you. Our office team is away at UK Games Expo from tomorrow morning for four days and the web connection is going to be intermittent so if anything changes whilst we're away there maybe a delay getting word out but we'll do our best.

I am also gambling that Conan and Star Trek will be the two that carry the 2d20 flag to great heights and gather legions.

Meanwhile, though the system is rules heavy, it can be fun to play if the GM prepares, with helpful reminders like my character bio below (that has extracts of all the skills that character uses in play).

Nice! Yes, fiddly features need simple exposition. I'm playing some Conan at Expo, but another's. You've set a custmorary high bling bar!

Your Character Bio is attractive, lovely and clear.

However, that main character sheet...ugghhhh. Looks "nice" but far FAR too busy. especially for new players to the system. (Not a criticism of your work BTW)

I would've been tempted to separate the STATs, Skills and Combat data onto a clearer sheet. Lose all the stuff that's on that character sheet that you've now duplicated and put on the Bio.

Basically, ALL the stuff in the centre of the character sheet should form the Bio, that should be the flashy part. Everything to the left/right on the original character sheet, should form a second sheet.

Than you for the honest critique, Grinne Baeritt. I too thought the very stylish official character sheet was way too busy. Plus, it lacked enough space to summarise those character-defining talents and skills for new players, who probably would have interrupted scenes more often with rules questions for the GM (since Conan is inherently a rules-heavy system).

So, yes, the parts on the left especially, the weapons, stress and vigor, could have been on a different sheet with the parts on the right, the default stat-block of attributes.

I think I will take up your suggestion and re-create a custom character sheet for Conan games that we run on 24th of June, in Huddersfield. :D

I loved the 2d20 system, but only really had a chance to play it once. ( IIRC at Indiecon ), and then that was only a cut-down demo/quick start version of Mutant Chronicles, no Chronicle points, and no momentum either. Which is a shame since like they seem to add a lot of potential to the game as a whole. :( Still, even that sold me on the basic system.

I'm busily working on adapting it for pulp/horror type games.

Nice to see someone else enjoying the 2d20 system from Modiphius. :D

I am a strong advocate for it and am collating resources to help introduce new players and provide insights into the versatility of the 2d20 system for crunch rules-based role play.

2d20 Games on Reddit

  • Mutant Chronicles 3rd Edition (hightest crunch 1st iteration of rules)
  • Robert E. Howard's Conan (mid-crunch 2nd iteration of rules)
  • Corvus Belli's Infinity (mid-crunch 2nd iteration of rules)
  • Star Trek Adventures (mid-crunch 3rd iteration of rules)
  • John Carter of Mars(lightest offshoot of 2d20 rules)

For playing with other people face-to-face, there will be a series of Conan-focused games at IQ Gaming in Huddersfield on the 24th of June, if that location is convenient for you.

Is that third guy Jerry Grayson of Khepera Press? Look like his dreads. (Joking, but seriously, looks just like Jerry)

Ha ha ha! You could say Imhotep was inspired by Jerry Grayson. :o

I tried to tilt the game towards a more southern-African feel for this particular Conan adventure, since The Black Kingdoms are often overlooked in terms of heroes of the Hyborian Age (even the map is less detailed for this region).

The game I played at UK Expo was silky smooth. It looks much more fiddly than it is in play.
