[UKRP 2011 Awards] UKRP topic of 2011

Postby mr toad » 11:09am on 09 Jan 12

Hi there,

during 2011 was there a topic that made you smile? Is there a topic that always seems to get discussed at cons? Is there a topic that you can refer to for some great knowledge, GM'ing advice or rules clarification?

Well then nominate it for an award and share its glory with others.

To vote for your winner all you need do is write a short citation as to why you think the topic you are nominating should win this award. The judging of the award will be down to the votes you receive from the committee based on the citation you have submitted.

Thanks in advance for your input.

What no nominations? None at all....dang namit maybe 'The Kyngdoms' was right!

Or you're just not looking hard enough. Allow me to take you on a backwards journey over some of 2011's topics that are the reason why I enjoy these forums.

  • Back in September rabalias asked us what was our Best Classic Monster? Well any topic that involves a picture of a Gelatinous Cube is a winner for me. Summed up brilliantly by Orpheo.
    Orpheo wrote:Dude...Gelatinous Cube.

  • It seemed ragequit had hit a new high back in September and so with remarkable insight knightinarmour asked us all to look back and reflect and remember why we enojy this hobby. He simply asked What is you FIRST rpg you can remember playing?

  • Who could forget about Jonny Gray's Brother Colouring-In Book RPG? They say a picture speaks a thousand words. Click on the link and take 25hp of stun damage!

  • Way back in May Evilgaz decided to get rough and told us to Shoot Him in the Face. A topic regarding the popularity of the two big RP genre's, Fantasy V Sci-fi and if laser guns are to blame. Pew Pew!

There are loads of gems out there and I often go back and look at old topics for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes just for the lolz.

Cheers

The recent Viking Hat GM thread is surely worthy of nomination: my eyes surely bled at the repeated walls of text, and my belly fair warmed at Gazmondo, w00hoo, and The Magus' honest, if strident, engagement with the content of Omnifray's post . (As opposed to the tone of an earlier thread in the year where the engagement was in bad faith and riddled with ad hominem attacks that did nobody any favours.)

The "Casual racism Ok because it's in genre" thread was good and managed to refrain from degenerating IIRC. So I'll nominate that.

Doh!

Gotta nominate the Colouring In Book thread then: who knew that there was so much artistic talent in UKRPers?

I got a surprising amount out of the What makes your fantasy, fantastic? thread.

Why? People were coming up with lots and lots of positive ideas of things they liked- and it made me think about things I liked and even post about them. It also sold me on Earthdawn (which I really must take another good look at).
