Chivalry and Sorcery

As some of you may know, Britannia Games Design have had a few years in hibernation – 10 in fact. Initially this was down to sheer burn out from organising the last Dudley Bug Ball but was followed by a few IP issues which had to be resolved to protect their trademarks. Unfortunately, 4 years ago they lost their son Michael (whom a fair few number of UK convention goers will remember).

But, the dust has now settled and in some ways to enable us to dedicate stuff to Michael (and with the new found freedom for small press provided by the likes of DriveThruRPG) they have decided to venture into production again.

There’s a few good old products now available as PDF downloads but they are pleased to announce that the first real new product, C&S Essence, is now out. Originally a 4 page free download, its been completely re-worked with an added introduction to the Darken setting (a kingdom set in the Dragon Reaches of Marakush), an adventure and some basic skirmish rules for larger battles.

Our current plans revolve mainly around products we had in development. These are:

C&S Core Rules: The full blown rules, a complete revamp of C&S The Rebirth, character generation has gone from 30 pages to 70 for example.

Racial Guide
Children of the Night: Vampires & Lycanthrope Companion

Setting Guides
Land of the Rising Sun: a revised version of the classic Japanese setting written by Lee Gold
SPQR: Ancient Rome sourcebook using C&S core rules written by Phil McGregors
Marakush Arcana: Marakush sourcebook adding more spells, items etc
Urtind: Marakush Kingdom sourcebook
Duchy of Maks: Marakush Kingdom sourcebook
Darken: Marakush Kingdom sourcebook

Treason: a Marakush Adventure
Creag Hill: Adventure (Dimebook size ala Under the Castle Gates)
To Save The Kingdom: A Marakush Adventure with Pregen characters including Karonus – Play the adventure where Karonus became Kyng of Urtind.

and last but not least

The Art of War: (working Title) a set of wargame rules in three parts, skirmish, mass battle and math alogorithm. Includes rules for building units from a basic serf up.

They can’t promise that they will all be out next year but these are the projects that they are currently working on.

About Dave McAlister

Dave has been roleplaying for over 30 years, having played and/or run most mainstream systems with the espionage genre being an early favourite. So much so that, in 1999, he started Modus Operandi. That same year he joined the Sarbreenar “Living” campaign team as their plotline controller before moving across to the Living Spycraft campaign team (as UK Regional Branch Director) in 2003. 2003 also saw the birth of UK Role Players as well as Dave’s first freelance writing appointment (co-writing World Militaries and consulting on both US Militaries and Battlegrounds, all for Spycraft).

Since then, Dave has concentrated on supporting the UK gaming scene. He has organised and run several small, one-day, events and was the RPG Area Manager for Gen Con UK in 2004. His current favourite systems are Dungeons & Dragons (specifically 5th Edition), Savage Worlds and Cinematic Unisystem. He has a (currently neglected) blog at dave.mcalister.org.uk and runs a D&D 5e SRD website at DnD5e.info.
