“The competition between the chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans has lasted for millennia. It won’t end in my lifetime or even your own, grandson. We can only hope that one day we can find peace and learn to coexist without this constant need to dominate each other.”
—Elder Orangutan.

Anthropomorphic Ape Figures includes three pages of evolved ape figure flats; one page of chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans each with twelve figures per page. This set also includes a page of top down tokens with a green hexagonal base of all 36 characters depicted on the figure flats on one page and VTT (virtual tabletop versions of all the characters in .png format.

Anthropomorphic Ape Figures is intended for use in multiple genres. The evolved chimpanzee, gorilla, and orangutan figures range from primeval ones without tools or few tools and clothing to fantasy figures with armor and blades to more modern figures with guns. This allows the set to be useful across most genres including primitive, fantasy, modern, near- future SciFi, post-apocalyptic, and horror games.  The gorillas even have some weapons that would be at home in clockwork or steampunk games.

Adventure hook for use with these figures

War of the Apes: The three clans of chimpanzee, gorilla, and orangutan have been at war since the beginning of their evolution. At first the gorillas were the strongest, with their pure strength they bullied the chimpanzees and orangutans in the primordial age. As chimpanzees evolved to learn how to use tools, they used their greater agility to wield melee weapons and maneuver in armor better than the gorillas and came to rule in the melee age. In the modern age, the orangutans have come to rule because of their intelligence and acute eye-hand coordination giving them an accuracy advantage with modern ranged weapons. All three races have vied for control for millennia and resent being dominated by the other races. After a relative age of peace under the orangutans, the gorillas and chimps have decided to rebel against the orangutans starting yet another war.

About Dave McAlister

Dave has been roleplaying for over 30 years, having played and/or run most mainstream systems with the espionage genre being an early favourite. So much so that, in 1999, he started Modus Operandi. That same year he joined the Sarbreenar “Living” campaign team as their plotline controller before moving across to the Living Spycraft campaign team (as UK Regional Branch Director) in 2003. 2003 also saw the birth of UK Role Players as well as Dave’s first freelance writing appointment (co-writing World Militaries and consulting on both US Militaries and Battlegrounds, all for Spycraft).

Since then, Dave has concentrated on supporting the UK gaming scene. He has organised and run several small, one-day, events and was the RPG Area Manager for Gen Con UK in 2004. His current favourite systems are Dungeons & Dragons (specifically 5th Edition), Savage Worlds and Cinematic Unisystem. He has a (currently neglected) blog at dave.mcalister.org.uk and runs a D&D 5e SRD website at DnD5e.info.
